Victim of Monroe Hit and Run Dies

Driver of vehicle identified as 17-year-old Monroe resident.

The Georgia State Patrol reported that the victim in Friday night's hit and run in Monroe, 76-year-old William Scarborough, has passed away as a result of the injuries he sustained in the accident. 

Scarborough was seriously injured on July 12, 2013 on West Spring Street in Monroe while walking home from a bingo game. He was life-flighted to Atlanta Medical Center where he remained in ICU until his passing today.

The driver of the vehicle, now identified as a 2002 Ford F-150, left the scene of the accident, but later turned himself into authorities. He has been identified by a GSP spokesperson as A.J. McGinnis, 17, from Monroe. According to GSP, the investigation is still ongoing and charges will be considered once the investigation has been completed.
