Monroe's Freedom Fest Rescheduled to Saturday, July 6

Due to the possibility of torrential rains and thunderstorms, organizers of Freedom Fest have rescheduled the event. It will now take place on Saturday.

After discussing the potential for severe weather on July 4th, organizers of Freedom Fest decided Monday evening to reschedule the event.

“Same line up of bands (Music), Free Food, and of course fireworks. Gates open at 5 p.m.,” said organizer Jeff Prine. “Please make note of this scheduling change and we hope these revised plans work with yours.”

On Monday, the Weather Channel issued a significant weather alert for the whole week of July 4th, with the greatest chance of severe weather expected on Thursday. Prine said after discussions with the vendors, and the fact that the stage and equipment would be available on Saturday, the call was made to move the event.

The weather channel is still predicting a 70 percent chance of heavy rainfall on July 4th. According to an earlier alert, "a stagnant, yet vigorous upper level pattern is bringing together ingredients that could produce a prolonged period of thunderstorms and very heavy rainfall across north and central Georgia for much of this week." It warned that persons planning outdoor activities this week, including on July 4th, should monitor the latest forecasts and begin making contingency plans in case hazardous weather threatens.
