Friday Night Lights: Sept. 21, Purple Hurricane Warning Tonight for Lumpkin County

Monroe Area's Purple Hurricane's look to build on what has so far been an unbeaten season.

The Monroe Purple Hurricanes are bearing down on Lumpkin County tonight. The 'canes have become quite a force of nature, flattening their first three opponents so far this season by lopsided margins of of +40 points. Last week, the Oconee Warriors took the brunt of the storm. The Hurricane offense combined to rush for 576 yards in a 62-14 victory. This week is shaping up to be no different, as Lumpkin is still looking for its first win this season following a 27-11 loss to West Hall last week. Monroe meets Lanier next week.

George Walton Academy travel due east to meet Warren County tonight. The Bulldogs are 2-1 this season, following a solid 45-14 win last week at Holy Innocent's Christian Academy. Warren was soundly defeated by Washington-Wilkes, failing to score in a 46-0 route that evened their record to 1-1.Next week, the Bulldogs travel to Commerce.

The Bulldog faithful enter this week heavy hearted. GWA's during practice earlier this week. He remains in serious condition at an Atlanta hospital and on the minds of the fans of tonight's game.

Loganville Christian Academy's Lions look to continue their winning ways tonight at Creekside Academy in McDonough. The Pride has dominated opponents thus far this season in each of their first four games, which culminated in a 42-0 blowout of Griffin Christian Academy last week. Creekside's record is even at 2. Next week the Lions will welcome Dominion Christian Academy to the Den.

The Walnut Grove Warriors head to Stephens County tonight with a win under their headdress, following last week's 14-7 win over Howard. The 1-2 Warriors' kept the ball on the ground to great effect last week, resulting in the much needed win. 3-0 Stephens will prove a formidable test for the Grove. Next week, the Warriors head home to face Lumpkin Co.

The Loganville Red Devils travel to Flowery Branch this week after a crushing 6-40 defeat at the hands of Clarke Central last week. Loganville is now 1-2. Flowery Branch is also 1-2 for the season, earning a win last week at Cedar Shoals. Ceadar Shoals will head to Loganville next week to square off with the Devils.

And in the rest of Friday night action:

North Oconee travels to Athens Christian Academy Eagles. Last week the 1-1 Titans blanked Madison, 49-0 while the 1-2 Eagles fell to Jackson County, 21-39. Next week will be the Titan's turn to face Jackson, while the Eagles head across town to face Prince Avenue.

Speaking of Prince Ave, the Wolverines are at home tonight against Glascock County High. Prince Ave's 3-0 team enjoyed a week off while Glascock won their first of the season in a close game against Harlem.

Athens Academy is also coming off a bye week but face a tough Lady of Mercy team at home. Both teams enter tonight with no losses this season. Next week the Spartans face Lakeside Academy.

The Oconee County Warriors have a Bye week.

Cedar Shoals will face Heritage High School tonight.  Last week, the Jaguars fell to 2-1 for the season after losing to Flowery Branch 27-45. Heritage beat Salem last week to remain undefeated at 3-0. Next week, the Jags head to Loganville to face the Red Devils.

Clarke Central has a Bye this week. Last week, they collected their first win of the season in no uncertain terms, dominating Loganville 40-6. Next week Central will face Apalachee High School.

Winder-Barrow travels to Conyers tonight to face Salem High. The Bulldoggs go seeking their first win this season, after suffering a crushing 69-0 loss to Gainseville last week. 1-2 Salem lost 7-21 to cross-town rivals Heritage last week. The Bulldoggs face that Conyers team at home next week.

Apalachee High faces the Gainseville Red Elephants this week. The Wildcats are even this season at 1-1, and had a bye last week. Gainseville is 2-1, including last weeks rout of the Bulldoggs. Next week, the Wildcats face Clarke Central.
