Field of Candidates for UGA President's Job Narrowed to Nine

Current President Michael Adams leaves in 2013.

And then, there were nine.

The search committee charged with finding a replacement for UGA President Michael Adams has narrowed the group of candidates to nine, according to a story in the Athens Banner Herald.

Chairman Larry Walker, a UGA alum and a member of the Board of Regents, said that all nine are in academia, the story says. That puts an end to the speculation that Zell Miller or Sonny Perdue were interested in the job.

According to an announcement given to the Banner Herald, Walker said that "All have excellent credentials and have experience at large, public institutions."

Many of the candidates have worked at large land-grant schools like UGA. Five are current college presidents. Three of the candidates are provosts. And one is a dean in a public university, according to the announcement.

In October, there were 12 candidates, so the number is dropping.
