A two-vehicle wreck in Monroe Friday night resulted in four people going to the hospital and another one going to jail. Georgia State Patrol reported that the two-vehicle wreck happened on Georgia 10 east, close to Jim Dawes Road.
"A white Chevrolet pickup, extended cab, was traveling east when it experienced some sort of mechanical malfunction," said Sen. Trooper John Taylor of the GSP. "The driver was trying to pull over to the shoulder of the road. The vehicle was stopped when a second vehicle travelling in the same direction, a silver Dodge Ram pickup truck, failed to maintain its lane. That driver swerved back into the lane of travel and struck the rear of the white truck with the front of the Dodge pickup."
Taylor said there were four people in the front vehicle, driver Beatriz Silver and three passengers, ages 26, 16 and 13. All were transported to the hospital. Two were treated and released, but the other two remained in the hospital on Saturday evening.
The driver of the silver Dodge, Steven Matthew Green, 45, from Wintersville, was arrested and charged with failure to maintain lane, following too closely, driving without license on person, open container violation and driving under the influence. He was arrested and transported to the Walton County Sheriff's Office, Taylor said.
A witness said the injured were members of the family who own Los 3 Amigos in Monroe. Beatriz Silva is listed as a co-owner of the restaurant.
A three-vehicle wreck earlier Friday on Ga. 10 eastbound at Ho Hum Hollow Road held up morning traffic in Between for more than an hour. Only minor injuries were reported in that accident.
