Rangers with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Law Enforcement Division, compile a weekly report of investigations and charges filed - many for hunting violations. In the docket for Jan. 20 - 26, two Walton County hunters found themselves in trouble for violating hunting regulations.
According to the report, two hunters were found to be hunting waterfowl in a swamp that was baited with whole kernel corn - a no, no under Georgia's hunting regulations. The owner of the swamp was charged with hunting waterfowl over bait and possession of illegally taken wildlife. The second subject was issued warnings for hunting waterfowl over bait and possession of illegally taken wildlife. Five wood ducks were reportedly confiscated by DNR rangers.
In neighboring Oconee County, a hunter was charged for doing the same thing and in that case, three ducks were confiscated.
You just never know what you're going to find in a duck swamp. A stolen vehicle was recovered from a duck swamp in Covington during an investigation for hunting violations.
