Sun Glare Blamed for 3-Vehicle Wreck in Monroe Thursday

A wreck in Monroe on that sent a 34-year-old Loganville man to the hospital was blamed on the early morning glare of the sun.

A three-vehicle wreck in Monroe early Thursday morning resulted in a 34-year-old Loganville man being transported to Athens Regional Hospital, according to Georgia State Patrol officials.

GSP Trooper John Taylor said a Walton EMC bucket truck  was broken down on the side of the road in the southbound lane of Mt. Vernon Road in Monroe. A Walton EMC service truck had pulled up behind the bucket truck and both vehicles were stationary and unoccupied at about 7:58 a.m. when the accident happened. Taylor said a 2005 Econline van, driven by 34-year-old Thomas Brandon Brotherton, of Loganville, was traveling on Mt. Vernon Road in the same direction. Brotherton reported that he was blinded by the early morning sun and did not see the vehicles stopped on the side of the road. He ran into the back of the service truck, ramming it into the back of the Walton EMC bucket truck.

The Loganville man was the only injury. He was transported by ambulance to Athens Regional Medical Center with serious, but not life threatening, injuries. Taylor said no charges would be filed. The accident closed down the road for about an hour on Thursday morning, Taylor said.
