A 16-year-old Oconee County High School student was involved in an accident that killed a Newton County man Monday, according to the Athens Banner-Herald.
Christopher Tyler Evans, 37, of Newborn, was riding to Georgia Square Mall to see Santa Claus with his excited 5- and 7-year-old sons when the car his wife was driving pulled into the path of an oncoming Jeep, driven by the student.
The collision on Timothy Road near the Athens Perimeter killed Evans, the Athens Banner-Herald reports, on the couple's anniversary.
The student had been volunteering with a youth group and working at a nursing home that day, police told the newspaper.
No charges are expected, and no one else was seriously injured.
It is the second fatal accident to occur in the past month involving a teen driver from Oconee County.
On Nov. 14, 58-year-old Lynda Kelley of Watkinsville was struck by a Toyota Camry at the intersection of Union Church and Evans roads after having checked her mailbox. She later died at a hospital.
No charges were filed against the driver of the Camry, a 16-year-old from Watkinsville.
