Arrest Made in Monroe Shooting

James Middlebrooks has been arrested in connection with the homicide of Curtis Dwayne Barfield, of Monroe.

Monroe Police Chief Keith Glass said that , of Monroe, was arrested Friday morning in connection with the Thursday murder of Curtis Dwayne Barfield, also of Monroe.

"Middlebrooks was arrested this morning at 8:34 a.m. in Campton by Walton County Sheriff's Deputy J. Hicks," Glass said in a press release. "Hicks was investigating a suspicious vehicle when another call came in stating that  Middlebrooks was walking on Fannie Thompson Road."

Barfield's body was found at 1120 South Broad Street in the early morning hours of Nov. 1, according to Glass. An investigation led to a warrant for Middlebrooks by Thursday afternoon in connection with Barfield's death. Glass said it was a shooting that was being investigated as a homicide. He praised the efforts of the various organizations that worked together to secure Middlebrook's arrest.

"We are very appreciative of and thankful to the citizen that called this in and for the excellent job by Deputy Hicks this morning," Glass said. "I am very pleased with the work that has been done in this case by MPD, GBI ,Gwinnett PD and the WCSO."
