Door-to-door Salesman in Monroe Picked Up On Outstanding Warrants

Arrest of a suspicious person claiming to be an employee of ADT Alarm systems and more in the recent Walton County Sheriff's Office alerts.

Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman expressed his concern recently about changes to the Walton County ordinances that no longer require a permit being issued for anyone to solicit in county neighborhoods. His concerns were evidenced in the most recent Zone Alerts warning residents about people going door-to-door claiming to be employees of ADT Alarm Systems. While the alert doesn’t say whether or not the people were legitimately employed by ADT, it does note that one of the subjects was arrested on outstanding warrants.

In another of the alerts, a suspicious person checked out by WCSO deputies turned out to be someone legitimately delivering the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

recently warned about scams involving security systems. According to the PSA issued jointly by the BBB and the Federal Trade Commission, people need to use caution when allowing people into their home as well as when considering what security system sales agents have to offer.

While the BBB notes that during the spring and summer months, home security or alarm companies do hire traveling sales agents to go door-to-door, it also notes that in some cases high pressure or deceptive sales tactics are used. The end result is some people end up buying expensive, and in some cases, substandard, equipment that they may not need. The PSA also urges that before you let anyone inside your home, ask for identification. More safety tips on how to avoid being taken advantage of can be found here.
