Monroe Art Guild Selected as a Host Site for State Art Collection Tour

The collection will be in Monroe Dec. 24, 2013- Jan 25, 2014, with a reception planned for Jan 11, 2014.

The following is a news release from the Monroe Art Guild:

The City of Monroe and the Monroe Art Guild will be one of nine locations in the state to host the State Art Collection Tour.  The announcement of the winning host cities by Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and his wife First Lady Sandra Deal was made at Stone Mountain Park during the Governor's Tourism Conference on September 11, 2013.

Over the next 14 months, the following Georgia communities will host the exhibit for six to eight weeks:

  • Quinlan Visual Arts Center in Gainesville
  • Monroe Arts Guild in Monroe
  • The Currahee Artists Guild
  • Paradise Gardens in Summerville
  • Dogwood City Art Gallery in Tallapoosa
  • Arts Clayton in Jonesboro
  • Dublin Laurens Arts Council in Dublin
  • Georgia Museum of Agriculture Art Gallery in Tifton
  • Camden County High School, Fine Arts Academy in Kingsland
The collection will be in Monroe Dec. 24, 2013- Jan 25, 2014, with a reception planned for Jan 11, 2014. 

The program is partnering the City of Monroe's Downtown Development Authority (Main Street) and non-profit arts organization, the Monroe Art Guild.  On hand to represent the City of Monroe and Monroe Art Guild was: Mayor Greg Thompson, City Administrator Matthew Chancey, Main Street Director Sadie Krawczyk, and MAG Director Bryan Hardman. 

The Collection of Art is owned and managed by the Georgia Council for the Arts.  The new exhibit,  is the first of its kind in decades, and highlights the diversity of styles, media and techniques in the collection.“Inspired Georgia: 28 Works from Georgia’s State Art Collection.”
