If you've missed the Friday Night Concert series in downtown Monroe, Ga. during the summer, then you really have missed a worthwhile experience. The streets are shut down and for a few hours the town comes to life.
As the video shows, there's dancing on the courthouse square and playing in the streets. It is great family entertainment and the best part - it doesn't cost anything. Aug. 24 was a make up concert by Hack Bartley and the Shuffle and by 8 p.m. the streets were filled with local families out on the town having a good time. There was music in the air and dancing on the courthouse square as children raced up and down the streets, fathers and sons got some football practice in and teenagers just hung out.
The stores and restaurants remained open and Amici's Italian Cafe` had its own brand of entertainment with live music by Tribune reporter Rachel Ward.
With the end of summer comes the end of the series, but there is one last concert scheduled. Don't miss Friday, Sept. 7, when Monroe will have the last, First Friday Concert. The Swingin' Medallions will be in town for the occasion. The festivities kick off at 5:30 p.m. and the Swingin' Medallions take the stage at 7 p.m. Don't miss it - you won't get another chance until next summer.
