The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is warning hunters to be careful of flooded roadways. Some Wildlife Managment Areas have some road closures. According to a press release, small game hunting is still in season, but roads on several WMAs may not be cooperative. As of Wednesday morning, four WMAs report closures on some, if not almost all, roads.
Affected WMAs include: Chickasawhatchee, Oaky Woods, Ocmulgee and Dawson Forest.
Officials urge hunters to take precaution if visiting these, or other WMAs, and to avoid roads with standing water or roads that look impassable. Officials said this will not only prevent drivers from potentially getting stuck, but will also protect the integrity of the roads and avoid the need for future closures for repairs.
