Walton County State Farm Agencies Assist in Fire Prevention
Local State Farm agencies donated to the Monroe Fire Department to help complete a trailer to carry a new stove fire simulator to various locations to demonstrate the dangers of cooking fires.
State Farm Insurance Agencies in Walton County presented the Monroe Fire Department with $400 to help complete a trailer to make their new stove fire simulator mobile. The newly unveiled simulator is used to educate the community about the dangers of kitchen fires. While highly effective, the simulator is very bulky and difficult to maintain and set up.
A small trailer was donated to the department in hopes of making it mobile and easier to maintain. However, the trailer needed wheels, tires, and a new floor.
“State Farm wanted to help finish this project to raise awareness that people should NEVER throw water on a grease fire,” said Payton Pettus from State Farm.
“I’m excited to see companies like Sate Farm helping our community,” said Monroe Fire Chief Stan Dial. “Our fire prevention program is making a difference by reducing the number of fires and our new mobile stove fire simulator will take our prevention program to the next level.”
The stove fire simulator was purchased through a grant from the Georgia Firefighter Burn Foundation and is now being demonstrated around the community. If you have a group, organization, or function that would like to see the presentation on Kitchen Fire Safety contact the Monroe Fire Department at 770-267-4446.
