Valentine’s Day Homecoming Miracle

After being critically injured in a wreck in Monroe in November 2012, Jennifer Ford and her family will have a very special Valentine’s Day this year. The 30-year-old wife and mother of two is scheduled to be discharged from Shepherd’s Center and go home for the first time in three months.

Ford’s husband, Darren, said she would be released from the Shepherd’s Center sometime this morning.

“She gets to come home Valentine's morning,” Darren said, adding that he was busy Thursday preparing for his wife’s homecoming. “My biggest fear is groceries - Jennifer requires a specific diet that I'm not familiar with. So I'm headed to Kroger to figure out what all I can get and all that good stuff. This will be my first real shopping experience since her accident.”

The Ford family's life was dramatically changed on Nov. 10 when Jennifer's car left the road on Ho Hum Hollow Road in Monroe, hitting a tree and critically injuring the young mother. She remained in a coma for weeks, eventually pulling out of it enough to be transferred to the Shepherd's Center. Darren kept the community updated on his wife's condition on his Facebook page as she recovered from her injuries. All indications were that she had a long road to recovery ahead of her, and while she still has a way to go, Jennifer's recovery has been nothing short of miraculous.

Atlanta's Fox 5 featured a special on the family on Wednesday, highlighting just how far she has come, as well as the devotion Darren has shown throughout the process. The couple has close ties to both the Monroe and Loganville communities. Loganville High School graduates, Darren and Jennifer were high school sweethearts and have now been together for 12 years. They live in the community of Between and both of them work in Monroe. Jennifer was employed at Clearview Regional Medical Center and Darren is a branch manager at City Electric Supply.

The communities have rallied around the family, raising money to help them with the medical expenses. A motorcycle ride is also in the planning stages.

But for now, Feb. 14, 2013 will be a very special day for the Ford family - their own special Valentine's Day miracle.
