Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

Thank a Veteran for His or Her Service on Veterans Day

We extend our sincere appreciation for the service of our veterans of all wars.

Nov. 11 is Veterans Day so what better time to thank a veteran for their service. Here is a poem I found last year from poems submitted by students from Columbia Junior High thanking veterans

Because of You, Unknown Soldier
By Courtney Tanabe

Because of you, I am here
Because of you, I am able to live freely

Yet I do not know you
And I have not done anything for you

But there you stand, ready to fight
And there you are prepared to die
For me

You've fought before
And you'll fight again
For someone you don't know

So thank you Unknown Soldier
Fighting for me

I'm here because of you
And I owe my future to you

We honor those in our community who have put their lives on the line for us.

If you have a veteran you would like to honor, or attended a Veterans Day Ceremony in the local area and have photos to share, please add them here.

With active American Legion Posts in Loganville and Monroe, we have many veterans in our area. Thank you to all those members who put their lives on the line to protect us and our freedoms!
Although my grandparents and my father are no longer alive, I would like to express my appreciation for their service while they were. My grandfathers fought in WW I and WW II and my father in WW II. Although none were from America, they fought in the Allied Forces alongside Americans.

@Tammy

Thank you for your interest.
Maybe this will help.

I will send Sharon SFC Allen's address.

If you then contact her she can pass it on.

You may choose to contact me at

WILLIAMECHAPMAN@MSN.COM -- Nothing you send will survive a return e-mail

Thanks again Tammy.

I would like to do this at least twice a year Veterans day (today) and Memorial day in May.
Remember ANY GIFT, ANY TIME ..................

My only satisfaction is in trying.

Yes, thank you to Rey Martinez for his service in the field and at home as well. And I second the special thanks to SPC Mark Allen for his service and the sacrifices of he and his family.

Second from left in the featured photo is Elmer Swartzmeyer. I first met Mr. Schwartzmeyer when he was helping a veteran in need from Walnut Grove. Since then I run into him often, always helping others, including our four-footed friends. Thank you Sir, for your service both while serving in the military and since then in the community!

Yes, kudos to my friend Rey ! In my eyes he's a true hero. Serving our Country, business leader, civic leader, & a great Dad. I'm praying for your safe return.

Sharon, I've been out of town a lot. My Dad isn't doing well. Forgot to let you know that I did get that. Now that the holiday is here, I can sit down a look at a few things. I have some letters from kids to soldiers that might be enjoyed and would like to write something personal. I used to collect things for a few years when we had Loganfest, to send to troops. I had local businesses donate a ton of stuff. I wish I had time for all that again. Hopefully, this week. My saddest moment though, was just after I had sent about 6 dozen cookies and other things to one of my pen pals in Afghanistan, I sat down to the computer to find out that he died in battle. I kept up with his family for a long time, but that was a very sad, sad experience.

Thanks Sandy. Yes, I find that the older I get, the busier I get. Actually, the more I put on my plate to do - lol. I wish I had the time to do everything I'd like to do. For 4 years, I worked full time and went to school at night, and then afterwards when the loans came due, for the next 4 years, I spent my time working two jobs. Now, I'm thinking about going back to school since the first degree didn't profit much (what I want to do requires a masters degree). One of my jobs was as a drill instructor for a juvenile boot camp, thus, my continued love for the military. Maybe I can find out more about our local families and see if there's a way to "adopt" them in some way. I worked with THE great Kat Orr (Operation Love From Home) for some of those years (helping soldiers). She is at a different season on her life as well. It would be nice to be able to get enough people involved for SS. I think he has a wonderful idea.
