Fatal Plane Crash Claims Two in North Forsyth County – Cumming Patch

Two people were killed Thursday night when the single-engine plane they were flying in crashed on Lanier Drive near the intersection of Shady Grove Road in north Forsyth County.

The identities of the victims have not been released, according to Capt. Tim House of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, but Cumming Patch has learned the victims may be from Forsyth County.

The small two-seater aircraft went down just before 8 p.m. crashing in the road yards away from residential homes and Deer Creek Shores Presbyterian Church that was holding service at the time.

Woman Fights, Escapes Sex Attack – Cartersville Patch

A woman police found pantless and crouched behind the counter at QuikTrip said a man who gave her a pain pill later beat, choke-slammed and tried to sexually assault her in a Parkway North motel room.

Taken by ambulance to Cartersville Medical Center following the 4:30 a.m. incident, the "hysterical" woman was bleeding from the face and complaining of neck pain and pain from broken teeth, according to the Cartersville Police Department report.

ACLU Files Suit on Behalf of Georgia KKK Group – Buford Patch

Three months after the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) denied a request from the Ku Klux Klan to adopt a stretch of roadway in Union County, Ga., the American Civil Liberties Union has filed suit in Fulton County Superior Court.

The lawsuit, filed Sept. 13, accuses the State of Georgia of using "frivolous and pretextual" grounds to deny the Adopt-a-Highway application submitted by the International Keystone Knights of the Ku Klux Klan (IKKK).

In rejecting the request in June of 2012, the GDOT issued a press release stating, "Encountering signage and members of the KKK along a roadway would create a definite distraction to motorists." 

The GDOT also advised the section of roadway listed in the application was ineligible due to the posted limit exceeding 55 mph.

University of Georgia Students Charged in Fake ID Ring – Athens Patch

Three University of Georgia students have been charged in a fake ID ring, The Athens Banner-Herald reports.

The newspaper says investigators took out 56 warrants charging one student as the ringleader and two others as distributors. Nelson Agaturuchi Nwannunu, 20; Tom Lennart Larsson, 20; and Zain Haider Abidi, 18 are facing felony charges of manufacturing and distributing fake IDs.

Human Rights Group Plans Sit-In at Controversial Cobb Bar – East Cobb Patch

Gerald Rose, the leader of the human rights group that planned a press conference at a Marietta bar known for its controversial signs, is now planning a sit-in at the bar on Sept. 22 at 3 p.m.

Mulligan's Food & Spirits has been known to have signs with racial slurs referring to Hispanic people and other groups. The former bar owner, Mike Norman, made national headlines when he sold T-shirts depicting then presidential nominee Barack Obama as the monkey Curious George.
